What Duality Dash is

Duality Dash is an endless riser drawn entirely in black, white and gray. You climb nonstop through a stack of gates in one of two forms: MERGED, a single orb in the middle, or SPLIT, two orbs out wide. Every gate's openings fit one of those forms. Be in the right one when you arrive and you pass. The game never uses color to tell you anything, only shape.

Controls

Tap anywhere to switch between merged and split. The change is not instant. The orbs glide from one form to the other, so the tap has to come a little before the gate. Tapping again in mid-glide simply reverses the transform. The first tap on the menu starts a run and a tap after a crash retries.

Three openings, some glowing redWhichever form uses only the white ones. Red openings are hazards.

When you are split, the two orbs slide sideways automatically to line up with the gaps of the next split gate. Picking the form, and picking it in time, is the only job.

Scoring and SNAP

Each gate is worth 10 points. Switching form late but safely, within about half a second of the crossing, scores a SNAP. Snaps in a row build a streak that adds 5 points per step, up to 50 extra per gate. An early switch passes safely but resets the streak. A gate that already matches your form neither adds to the streak nor breaks it.

Your high score and best gate count are saved on the device, and STATS on the title screen shows lifetime numbers.

What ends a run

Touching any bar: the wrong form, a transform that had not finished settling, or clipping the edge of an opening. The result screen tells you which it was and by how much you missed.

A run opens with three scripted gates before the generated ones begin. After that, the rise speeds up, openings shrink, split gaps shift off center and start to slide, and gates arrive in quick alternating bursts. However tight it gets, a gate that demands a change of form always leaves time for a full transform plus a moment to react.

Revive and Hyper

After a crash you get one three-second offer to revive per run, and taking it continues the climb with a short burst of invincibility. Before a run you can choose CLASSIC or HYPER, where Hyper means 1.25 times the speed and 1.5 times the score.

Tips

  1. Decide from the number of gaps. One means merged, two means split, and nothing else matters.
  2. If the next gate matches your current form, do nothing. An unnecessary tap near a bar is the easiest way to crash.
  3. Only gates that force a change can snap, so save your late timing for those.
  4. If the result screen says the transform was too late, your choice was right and your tap was not. Tap a beat earlier.
  5. On a triple gate with red openings, find the white ones first and then pick the form.
  6. A mid-glide tap reverses the transform. Use it to cancel a switch you started by mistake, if there is still room.

Questions and answers

Do I have to aim the two split orbs?

No. They line up with the next split gate on their own. You only choose merged or split.

What are the red openings?

Hazards. On an inverted triple gate, only the white openings are safe.

Why did I crash in the correct form?

The transform had not finished, or an orb clipped the edge of an opening. The result screen shows which.

What is a SNAP?

A change of form completed late but safely, shortly before the gate. Snaps build the bonus streak.
